This blog is my place to vent and share resources with other parents of children of trauma. I try to be open and honest about my feelings in order to help others know they are not alone. Therapeutic parenting of adopted teenagers with RAD and other severe mental illnesses and issues (plus "neurotypical" teens) , is not easy, and there are time when I say what I feel... at the moment. We're all human!

Daily Check in Sheet

Here's what I came up with for Bear to help him with getting in touch with his feelings and work on communicating with us. I managed to squeeze all the daily check ins on one page so he can just fill in the blanks. It will be near the chore chart although we can put it in a folder if he doesn't want his siblings seeing it. There is now a space on the chore chart for him to check off that he did this daily.

This is an awesome idea! Let us know how it works. It sounds like Bear isn't much for talking about feelings and it's definitely a good "check your head" opportunity for him to touch base with himself and determine how he feels versus how he wants to feel and how his actions/behaviors relate to that. Cool idea! Go Mom!

I like it. It's like Mad Libs, which i loved as a child.
On Monday I was feeling GROSSED OUT because MY SHOE RAN AWAY. I asked for help from A TURTLE and the outcome was POSITIVE. THE TURTLE BROUGHT ME A POP TART.
But I doubt that Bear was as playful/smart alecky as I was when I was a teen. He'll probably write the same thing in as few words as possible every day.

The kids were doing Mad Libs the other day. They really like them. Bear of course really didn't get involved much. It's hard to do Mad Libs with poor reading skills. When Ponito or Bob do the writing and read them out loud for everyone it all works out and they had a blast.
