This blog is my place to vent and share resources with other parents of children of trauma. I try to be open and honest about my feelings in order to help others know they are not alone. Therapeutic parenting of adopted teenagers with RAD and other severe mental illnesses and issues (plus "neurotypical" teens) , is not easy, and there are time when I say what I feel... at the moment. We're all human!

Bob quip

"Hey Mom, did you know that there is a law school less than 30 minutes from here?"

"Oh, really?"

"Yea, it's called the University of Texas Law School."

"Umm, honey, you do realize that's UT?" (held up the UT hand sign)

"Oh."

Hook em horns!

In her defense (no pun intended) we never call it the University of Texas. We just say things like Mom got both her degrees at UT. Dad's MBA is from UT. My nephew is wearing a UT jacket...
Yes we teased her unmercifully about this for several days, but she's my neurotypical child, she can handle it.

Would you or Miz Kizzle be at all interested in talking to Bob? She's only 13 and trying to figure out what she wants to be when she grows up.

That is so funny, we actually have a UT in my area of East Tennessee too, the University of Tennessee! Same colors, ours is just a brighter orange!
Thanks so much for your comments on my blog! I appreciate it!

I'd be happy to email Bob about what's involved in being a law student. At 13, though, it's still early days. She may change her mind later on.
I'd suggest she get involved in debate, if she isn't already and she could ask her guidance counselor if UT has any outreach programs for high school students.
Good writing skills are very, VERY important for lawyers. She could consider joining her school newspaper or yearbook. The more extracurricular activities the better when it comes time for applying to colleges.

I would be happy to talk to her. I also know of some lawyers in the Austin area she could talk to if she's interested. I'll email you from my "real" email address.

Actually, I'm having trouble finding an email address on your blog site. Could you post it in a comment?

Bob decided she doesn't want to be a lawyer after all. Thank you very much for the offers!

Will be interesting to see what she is going to be when she grows up!

Thanks again!

Haha Good for her--the last thing the world needs is more lawyers anyway . . . But if she changes her mind, let me know; I do know of some lawyers/ judges/ prosecutors she could talk to. =)
